Dr. David McCrystle: Dr. Dave graduated from the University of California at Davis Veterinary School in 1967. He practiced for two years in St. Helena and then moved to Healdsburg. He has been the owner of Healdsburg Veterinary Hospital since 1979. Dr. Dave has been an active member of this community for over 30 years. He has served on a number of board of directors including Healdsburg Future Farmer Fair Board, the Healdsburg School Board, the Healdsburg General Hospital Board, the Sonoma County Humane Society (as a board member and as president), the Sonoma County Animal Control, the Healdsburg Animal Shelter and has also been involved in numerous other community activities. For 20 years, he was part of the faculty teaching staff at Santa Rosa Junior College in both the Agriculture Department and the Veterinary Technician Program. Dr. Dave has also been actively involved in the Redwood Empire Veterinary Medical Association (RVMA) as a member and an officer, the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) as a board member as well as the Small Ruminant Practitioners as an officer and the Executive Director. He also served as Chairman of the Board of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) but has since ended his involvement with them after 20 years. Dr. McCrystle lives in Healdsburg with his wife Karen, and they have two children.

Dr. Margaret Basurto: Dr. Basurto graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Dr. Basurto practiced one year at Ferndale-Fortuna Veterinary in Northern California prior to coming to Healdsburg Veterinary Hospital. She grew up in Healdsburg raising livestock with her grandfather and father on their family farm. As a youth she participated in 4-H and FFA, devoting her summers to showing cattle, hogs, goats, chickens and ducks at local, county and state fairs. It was her participation in these organizations, as well as early introduction to agriculture that motivated her to pursue a B.S. in Animal Science at California State University - Chico. Dr. Basurto also attended California State University - Fresno, where she worked on a graduate research project at the campus Swine Unit. 

Throughout her education, Dr. Basurto has been blessed with great mentors. She hopes to return the favor by sharing her passion for learning and her love of agriculture with the community. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the Redwood Empire Veterinary Medical Association (REVMA).

Dr. Basurto is thrilled to be back in her hometown and currently lives in Healdsburg with her husband Eric and two miniature schnauzers Chloe and Bentley. She and Eric have a daughter, Annabel, and a son, Grayson. When she is not in the office, she can be found cheering on her two favorite sports teams, the San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco 49ers!

Dr. Margaret Basurto

Dr. Lea Bove: Dr. Bove comes to Healdsburg Veterinary Hospital several times a month to perform acupuncture on patients as well as assist both doctors with minor surgeries like spays and neuters. She was born and raised in New York and received her Bachelor of Science from Cornell University. She also received her Masters of Science and Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University. Dr. Bove owned her own small animal general practice in Arkansas for 25 years. She is certified in Veterinary Acupuncture from the CHI Institute in 2009. In her free time, Dr. Lea Bove rides her horse and goes to eventing competitions. She also has a red Australian Shepherd (Marcello) and a rescue Chihuahua (Buck) who rule her house.

Lisa, Registered Veterinary Technician: Lisa has 25+ years experience in the veterinary field. She acquired her RVT license in 2008 in the state of Washington and then in California in 2014. She began working at Healdsburg Veterinary Hospital in 2016. Lisa and her husband live in Windsor with their Chihuahua, Gracie and African Grey Parrot, Shana. They enjoy visiting their family cabin in Lake Tahoe, off-roading, camping, fishing, hiking & kayaking.

Katelyn, Registered Veterinary Technician: Katelyn, who has recently graduated from SRJC Registered Veterinary Technician Program and just passed her RVT board exam in July 2017. She has been around animals all her life. She raised market lambs and market hogs for the HFFCF in both 4-H and FFA. In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities and being with her 3 dogs (Libby, Booger and Thor), 3 cats (Scarlett, Franklin and Daisy), 2 horses (Jimmy and Quincy), and several chickens. Being born and raised in Alexander Valley, she knew Healdsburg Veterinary Hospital would be a perfect place to work.

Heidi, Customer Service Representative: Heidi joined our team in July 2017. She has lived in Healdsburg since she was three years old. She loves working with animals and being a part of the community. Heidi is a loving mother to her two year old son, Adrian. She enjoys spending time with her family, going on drives, art, cooking and music.
