Dr. Margaret Basurto

Dr. Margaret Basurto graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. She practiced for a year at Ferndale-Fortuna Veterinary in Northern California before returning to her roots at Healdsburg Veterinary Hospital. Growing up in Healdsburg, she raised livestock with her grandfather and father on their family farm, participating in 4-H and FFA. Dr. Basurto spent her summers showing cattle, hogs, goats, chickens, and ducks at local, county, and state fairs, which fueled her passion for agriculture and led her to pursue a B.S. in Animal Science at California State University – Chico. She also attended California State University – Fresno, where she worked on a graduate research project at the campus Swine Unit.

Throughout her education, Dr. Basurto has been fortunate to have excellent mentors and is eager to give back by sharing her passion for learning and agriculture with the community. She is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), and the Redwood Empire Veterinary Medical Association (REVMA). In addition to her professional associations, Dr. Basurto is also an active member of the Healdsburg Future Farmer’s Country Fair Board (HHFCF) and enjoys mentoring local high school students interested in veterinary careers through internship programs.

Dr. Basurto is thrilled to be back in her hometown and lives in Healdsburg with her husband Eric, their four children, and two schnauzers, Luna and Frieda. Together, they are the proud parents of two daughters, Annabel and Rosella, and two sons, Grayson and Preston. When she’s not at the office, Dr. Basurto can often be found cheering on her favorite sports teams, the San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco 49ers!
